Expose Tobacco Industry

At UpRISE, we recognize that tobacco use is a social justice issue. We help our coalitions to inform community members about the tactics the tobacco industry has used for decades, including:

  • Targeting youth
  • Exploiting lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender people
  • Using debt bondage and forced labor
  • Advertising in low socioeconomic neighborhoods
  • Marketing to African American communities
  • Impacting the environment through:
    • Deforestation
    • Cigarette waste
    • Incorrect disposal of electronic smoking devices
